Maiden Hair Fern with clematis

Garden Voices??

Whats up with Garden Voices.  My link never seems to want to work and if I type in their address it never comes up.  Anybody else having problems?

Red Rhodo…

Water Wise

I have issues.  Well all sorts really…but a big one is water waste.  I’ve had this issue for as long as I can remember.  I think I got it from my long since departed grandmother.  Being careful with water just made sense to me.

Having such a large garden comes with fact that I need to use water probably more than the average.  This of course makes me feel a tad guilty.  With that said…I probably water less than the average person.  Thanks to Mother Nature I have only watered my garden once this year.  In an average summer, I only water once a  week.  People are surprised when I tell them this.  I tend to make my plants beg for water.  I also over the years have planted more drought tolerant plants and shrubs and ripped up the thirsty ones.

I sure wish the gal across the way would stop watering her garden everyday.  The waste makes me cringe.

Clematis and Rock

I was actually surprised that this clematis made it through the winter.  It’s roots are planted in a low part of the garden in a bit of a frost pocket and the plant doesn’t get any sun in the winter.  I was very happy to see it made it

Sunday in the Garden

I finally got the chance to get out and do some long awaited chores.  I moved the cotinus’Golden Spirit’, the yellow fullmoom maple and planted the cedar by the deck.  I managed to get some weeding done and check for slug damage on the hostas.  No damage!  Hard to believe really.  Especially with all the rain we’ve been getting.  I’m knocking on wood as I type this.

I also ripped out some nepeta and poppies.  One poppy had no flowers on it and it was taking up too much valuable space.  I have to edit some more but thought i’d wait until after the peonies bloom.  I’m going to have to find homes for some of them next year.  My garden is just getting to overgrown and I’m not liking the jungle look.

I have all sorts of garden pictures to post but once again wordpress is acting up and not letting me.  Very frustrating!  I’ll try again in the morning.

We have been getting weather that plants love.  Hot for a few days and then a major downpour.  I have only had to water my garden once this year.  Everything keeps doubling in size in a matter of days!

Rhodo’Loderi King George’

My father in law gave me this rhodo.  Now that he has passed away it is even more special to me.  It has the largest blooms of any rhodo in my garden and it’s fragrance fills the air.  It is one of my favorite plants in my garden.

It was a good weekend.  The sun was nice to see.  I mowed the lawns, edged them, planted tomatoes, mixed salad greens and carrots.  I also planted some cosmos in the flower beds and deadheaded some rhodos.  I still haven’t moved some plants that I wanted but hopefully this week I’ll be able to get out there and get it done.   Fingers crossed.
